All I have to say about the pointless runabout that is the mid-season MLS All-Star game is…VOTE SOUNDERS!

Why not add a little extra wear and tear to our neighbors to the north?

Excellent points, Kevin.

Personally, I am not opposed to an ASG if, and this is a big IF, the game was to be played at the end of the season. Regardless, any of the musing on the subject is pointless because the league has determined it wants an ASG.

Bonuses.

Players receive bonuses for getting named to the All-Star team. The CBA gives bonuses to 32 players, if I recall correctly. But only 18 are actually eligible for the game. This is likely a compromise when the league went from the East-West format (which required 36 players) to the current MLS-Random European Team format, and therefore fewer players.

I also would strongly suspect that players would view being named to the All-Star team an honor, although being named and playing are different.

we are an AMERICAN league therefore we have to treat it like every other AMERICAN league and have an allstar match. this AMERICAN allstar match is a chance for AMERICA to prove that AMERICA is the best! GO AMERICA GO ALLSTARS!

the best way to show your disapproval of the allstar match is to not vote, not watch and don’t read any of the allstar reports mls puts out.

I deliberately didn’t vote for ANY timbers players for the all star team. Not because I think others are better but because it is one game we don’t need to play to risk injury or fatigue.
As for deciding who is selected based on a computer game, well, thats not surprising coming from an organization that thinks their current crop of referees are anywhere near qualified for the job!!

Look I know I’m a young buck and all but even I think this FIFA13 deal is ridiculous and I thoroughly enjoy playing the game. It just makes this joke of an ASG and even bigger joke. We have a hard enough time gaining the respect of other leagues around the world without these stupid PR stunts the league tries to pull off.
